Mayor and Mayoress of Wolverhampton 2021/22
Councillor Greg Brackenridge
Cllr Greg Brackenridge was first elected to City of Wolverhampton Council in 1996 and represents the Wednesfield South ward. He was born in Wednesfield in 1971. He was educated at Corpus Christi primary and St Chads secondary school. He studied Politics and Economics with the Open University whilst serving as a firefighter and has lived in the city for all of his life.
Cllr Brackenridge worked for West Midlands Fire Service serving at Wolverhampton, Fallings Park and Bilston fire stations. He was elected as a Fire Brigade Union representative early in his career until retirement and represents Wolverhampton as Chair of the West Midlands Fire Authority.
He serves on the Local Government Association National Fire Services Management Committee and the National Joint Council for fire and rescue services and is currently Chair of the Fire Safety Scrutiny panel established as the local response after the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Cllr Brackenridge is a passionate advocate of local and national fire safety work. He has served on a wide variety of committees and panels at City of Wolverhampton Council over the years as a member and Chair.
His interests include sport, local history and voluntary community activities which he is always very keen to support. He is a fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club and has been elated to witness the progress they have made over the last few seasons.
He has been married to Sureena for 25 years.
Sureena Brackenridge was born in Wednesfield in 1975 and was educated at Danesmore Park primary and Wednesfield High school. She studied a Biochemistry BSc (Hons) degree at London and Wolverhampton universities and started her profession as a science teacher in 2000. She is currently deputy headteacher at a local secondary school. Sureena says teaching is more than a career to her and she feels blessed to have had such a positive impact on so many young lives.
Sureena’s interests include reading, music, performing arts and supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. She has been married to Greg for 25 years and is a very proud mother of two sons aged 24 and 17 years old.
