Mayor and Mayoress City of Wolverhampton 2018/19
Cllr Phil Page is the 160th Mayor of the City of Wolverhampton. He has been a councillor for the Bilston North ward for 15 years.
He was born in his grandmother’s house in Clarence Road, St Chad’s Estate, Bilston in 1947. He was educated and grew up in Bilston and has lived in the town for most of his life.
During his working life, Cllr Page was a metallurgist, plumber and building works inspector before becoming branch secretary of trade union NALGO (National Association of Local Government Officers) at the age of 31.
Cllr Page held his full-time position as branch secretary for 20 years at a time when the union had 14 officers and 80 shop stewards covering every sector of the council. He lost his position when NALGO amalgamated with NUPE to form UNISON.
After retirement, he became actively involved in local politics and stood as a Labour candidate in several wards in Wolverhampton before being elected to Bilston North in 2003. Since becoming a councillor he has held a number of positions within the Labour group including cabinet member for education.
His interests include gardening, snooker and eating out. He is married to Sandra.
